CELEBRITY ENCOUNTERS FOR ME,
IS MORE THAN SIMPLY ASKING AN ARTIST TO POSE FOR A RANDOM PHOTOGRAPH.
Below are photos of many of the very lucky encounters that I have had with some of my favorite and most admired celebrities and artists in all of Rock and Roll. Not just chance encounters or a brief glimpse, but much more – a real opportunity to meet, shake hands, converse and ask a question or two, perhaps take a photo, and of course obtain an autograph.
In the world of autograph collecting, for me the obtaining of their signature is only part of what I want to take home. I want the celebrity to know I am a real fan of their music and artistry and, if they are willing, perhaps allow me to ask a genuine question about their career that already has not been answered 1000 times over or can be found with ease on the internet.
I thank each and every one of the artists below for stopping and sharing their time with me.
During the Peter Criss KISS Expo on Saturday January 28th, 2017, the photo that was taken during the Meet and Greet was a blurry mess. Therefore, I asked Peter and his team on Sunday morning January 29th to see about taking another photo. Peter being always so nice to his fans, allowed me this “quickie” you see here, snapped on Van Ness Avenue just outside
the Raleigh Studios at about 11:50am.
Though Timothy B. Schmit has one of the fullest and most calligraphic signature of any male artist, since about 2000 he has purposely made it very difficult for me to obtain his autograph. Such the case here, at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano on January 7, 2017. Mr. Schmit felt the need to avoid signing his last name on his album for me. Though I was/am happy to have obtained what he did sign (in lieu of nothing), no matter how I try to explain to him that all inscribed items I obtain are never for sale, I even have tickets to his shows (I showed him the tickets), and so I do support his solo career, it still doesn’t change his reluctance to sign anything for me.

at the December 2, 2016 performance at The Grove Theater in Anaheim.
Me with Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman currently of the band Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman, probably better known as former members of the band YES, at The Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, on November 22, 2016, prior to their concert performance. (Note: Trevor Rabin, though scheduled to be in the photo, took ill and was resting prior to the show).
My wife Maria and me with Kenny Loggins at Vroman’s Book Store in Pasadena
on Sunday October 23, 2016.
Me and Bruce Springsteen, a man who I have seen in concert more times than any other musician, at the very rare “Meet and Photo Greet” at The Barnes and Noble book store at the Los Angeles Grove, on Monday October 3, 2016. I waited 56.50 hours prior to the signing and was 3rd in line to receive his pre-signed 2016 autobiography, shake his hands, and say (ever so fast) a few words and reflections to him. Whatever it was that I said, and I did say it, I sure had to say it very fast.
Along the way, I met as well some new and now very dear friends (Sandy and Kim) who
will forever be linked with, for enduring the waiting on the streets for over 2 days all at a chance to meet this incredible man who have provided so much happiness through music for over 40 years.
Both of the above images were part of the KISS 2016 “Freedom Of Rock Tour”, during the “Meet and Greet’s” at Tucson, Az., on July 4, 2016 (me only) and in Eugene, Or., July 9, 2016, (me and my wife). The guys provided a pre-concert/concert, photo ops, and signed a ton of personal memorabilia.

One of my absolute favorite musicians of all time, Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship, and I outside of The Grammy Museum on Tuesday November 17, 2015. I was so happy to have finally met this man that I have admired since first hearing the song “Miracles” back in 1975.
WOW, happy, happy day indeed!
Vini “MAD DOG Lopez” signing drumheads and LP’s (and even index cards) and anything else he was given at the “All Things That Rock” Expo in Oaks, Pa, on Sunday October 4, 2015. It was indeed a pleasure to meet the original E-Street Band drummer and be able to chat with him a while. What a tremendously enjoyable and very nice guy.
Finally, after collecting in person autographs for 30 years, I was able to meet Ace Frehley of KISS
on October 3, 2015 at the “ALL THINGS THAT ROCK” Convention in Oaks, Pa.

“Can’t Stand Loosing You: Surviving The Police”.
Peter Criss and I at MAD MONSTER PARTY Convention in Phoenix, Arizona on May 9, 2015. Peter was charging $50.00 per signature. Being the first time I was ever able to have received an autograph from him, I obtained about 13 signatures that day. It was a pleasure to have met this legendary drummer.

Robin Zander of Cheap Trick during, and after, his sound check at the Weins Winery and concert patio in Temecula, Ca. on Friday September 12, 2014. Robin sound checked for over and hour and then signed autographs, posed for photos and chatted with the 20 or so fans at his meet and greet. Robin continues to be one of the most friendly and gracious of rock celebrities to his fans.
Carmine Appice was signing autographs for me at The Rock and Roll Show

Keith Emerson and me on August 4, 2012 at The Hollywood Show Los Angeles. It would be
the only time ever that I would meet Keith as he sadly passed away on March 11, 2016.
Over the week of September 30, 2011 in Mission Viejo, and October 6, 2011 in downtown Los Angeles, I was able to meet, talk to, and obtain several autographs from Max Weinberg. Though at first Max thought I was an autograph chaser and not a fan at all (and was a bit hesitant to sign any autographs), he soon did believe me that I was indeed a real fan. Max was as charismatic and distinguished as always; humorous, and simply so very interesting to listen to the many stories he told both at his Orange County concert and later at the Grammy Museum. Max is one of the most humble, generous and without a doubt amazingly awesome drummers in rock music. It was very important to me for Max to know I really was a fan of his, and by the end of the second meeting with him that week, I truly believe he knew how much I enthusiastically do admire him.

Roger Waters and I standing outside of The Grand Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden,
before his concert that night at The Globe Arena that both my wife and I attended
on May 25, 2002.
The very beautiful and gifted singer, EmmyLou Harris. Miss Harris has one of the most awesome voices in all of female rock and roll. I saw her at a party for the “GATHERING OF THE CLAN” – the benefit concerts for Fred Walecki at the Santa Monica Civic on August 8th and 9th, 2000. This all-star concert featured Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Meisner, David Crosby, Don Henley, Linda Ronstadt, Bernie Leadon and so many others. However, meeting EmmyLou Harris and obtaining her signature was indeed an absolute pleasure.
The incredible and legendary Robert Plant, standing next to my Toyota 4-Runner on Hollywood Bl., on May 16, 1995, and signing autographs for me prior to his concert later on that evening.
While waiting in line at Tower Records on March 21, 1995 at an in store signing later that night by Elton John, Gene Simmons pulled up. Gene told the crowd to let him finish shopping and, as promised, stopped and posed for photos and signed autographs before he left.
Two of the most absolutely gifted musicians you can ever have the pleasure of meeting. Founding member of the rock band “EAGLES”, Bernie Leadon, and session drummer Kenny Aronoff. Both of these very talented musicians were at the Universal Amphitheater, “RHYTHM, COUNTRY & BLUES” benefit concert on March 23, 1994. Together as part of the house band that night they rocked on stage and later signed autographs and posed for photos for many of the fans in attendance.
Sammy and I at the Rockline Studios in Sherman Oaks, on March 14, 1994. What can I say about Sammy Hagar that hasn’t already been said? Sammy is everything that is fun in Rock-n-Roll: Singer, songwriter, guitarist, dancer, prancer, and always very generous to his fans.
Randy Meisner and his solo band, in Natchez, Mississippi on October 16, 1993, with me not far behind. Randy invited me backstage, as he had done during several of his concerts I attended. He has been by far the most generous celebrity within my entire collection.
